Teething, Pooping and Rolling, Oh My!

Oh the wonderful things Nathanial Reid Can do!

He can roll on his belly

He can laugh he can coo.

His face turns red when he toots,

When he poops, and he sucks his fingers

When a paci won't suit!

Okay, for those of you who don't know, that was a brief homage to my new favorite children's book, Dr. Seuss's Mr. Brown Can Moo Can You? Today, I'd just like to update you on what is going on with Mr. Nathanial and the things I've learned about teething, pooping, and rolling over!

Teething

Sigh. We don't know what to do. We are not even sure if he is teething. This is what we do know:

  • He's drooling.

  • He's chewing on EVERYTHING.

  • He has two slightly swollen places on his bottom gum.

  • He's been waking up at 1:30 am and 4:30 am unless we give him Tylenol before bed.

The nurse says it's too early for him to be teething. Any ideas? Anyone?

Pooping

I think we are STARTING to get the poop problem under control. It takes pears, prunes, juice and the switch from rice cereal to oatmeal to get it done, but we now have at least one BM a day! He is a MUCH happier baby than he was when he was constipated.

Rolling

He's rolling over and wanting so badly to figure out how to crawl, but he's not quite there yet! He can now roll and get both of his arms out from in under himself. He places most of his weight on his arm that is affected with Erb's Palsy and then explores with his left hand.

One last thing. The foods Nathanial LOVES:

  • Carrots

  • Squash

  • Green Beans

  • Pears

The foods he HATES:

  • Peas

  • Peaches

I'm no parent...or medical personnel for that matter...but I have known of babies who teethe at 5-ish months.
